Location

If you are visiting Crete as a tourist, you will be fascinated by the gems that the city itself hides, from the Old Port to Koum Capi, to Court Square and Splantzia Square.

Avra City Hotel is located in the center of the town, right next to the Municipal Gardens of Chania and 2 minutes’ walk from the Municipal Market (Agora).

Getting to the hotel from the airport will take you just 25 minutes, as the airport is situated 16km from the city center.

The port of Souda is closer, only 10 minutes’ drive to Avra City Hotel while, if you arrive by bus, it is a matter of 10 minutes on foot from the Local Bus Station until you reach your room!

In 3 minutes walking distance from Avra City Hotel you will meet the Municipal Market (Agora), a large cross-like building full of local color. Inside, you can discover all kinds of traditional Cretan products and lose yourself in the colors and aromas of herbs & spices, honey and fresh meat and fish.

In just 10 minutes’ walk from Avra City Hotel, you will find the Old Venetian Harbor, one of the best preserved Harbors in the Mediterranean. Strolling around its small streets will give you the chance to enjoy the magnificent Venetian architecture, carefully preserved in all houses, apartments, restored dorms and restaurants.

On the west side of the Venetian Harbor lays Firkas fortress, which houses the Maritime Museum. Opposite Firkas fortress, towards the east side of the harbor, you can see the Old Sea Wall and the so-called Arabian Lighthouse, which has recently been carefully restored.

In the part of the harbor towards the city, two buildings are prominent. The first one is an Ottoman-era building with a distinctive spherical rooftop. It is the Kioutsouk Hasan Mosque, or Yali Tzamissi, as it is widely known.
